Miss Tourism 2016 Finals
This year’s edition of Miss Tourism Kenya will be hosted by the County Government of Vihiga on 15th to 18th June 2016. Vihiga County is a rural tourism destination in the Lake Victoria / Western Kenya Tourism Cluster, bordering Kakamega (North), Kisumu (South), Siaya (West) and Nandi (East). As a County, Vihiga is prepared to open up Western Kenya and entertain visitors in a week-long tourism and cultural extravaganza.

Construction of Givoi Health Facility
Earlier today the governor H.E Rev Moses Akaranga inspected the ongoing construction of Givigoi Health Facility in Hamisi Sub county. He commended the progress made as he promised the county government will disburse the remaining funds to ensure completion of the project by December this year. The project is fully funded by the county government of Vihiga at a cost of KSHS 44 million. upon completion the facility will have a 50 bed capacity, a Maternity, Theatre, peadiatric, In and out patient services among others.

Water Elephant Machines

Earlier today when Mr Ofir Yogev of Years of Water organisation from Israel was demonstrating how to use the “Water Elephant Machine” at the county headquarters. The “Water Elephant Machine” is a water purification machine that uses UV rays technology to purify water. Once the agreement between the county government of Vihiga and Years of Water organisation is complete the water Elephant Machine will be distributed to citizens across the county to enable them to have clean drinking water easily.

The county government recently signed an agreement with the government of Belgium that will see the later advance a grant of 1.7billion towards water projects in the county. However funds for the water Elephant Machine project will not be from the 1.7billion water grant by the Belgium government. The funds will be from the county government’s budget. Moreover the Years of Water organisation will train youth across Vihiga county and Kenya at large who will repair the machine incase it becomes faulty. The Water Elephant Machine can purify upto a minimum of 30000 litres of Water in its lifetime.


Vihiga county has purchased drugs worth Sh29 million to be distributed to all health facilities in the region. Chief Officer in charge of Health ministry Lucy Ijai said the first consignment of the drugs and other medical equipments arrived at the county referral hospital yesterday. “The drugs that gave been delivered are meant for the county referral hospital,” she explained.
