Vihiga County under the auspices of County Covid-19 Emergency Response Committee today launched a donation drive aimed at mobilising resources to cushion Vihiga residents during this Covid-19 pandemic period.
The initiative saw a section of Vihiga County leadership join hands in coming up with ways of addressing the challenges the pandemic has presented.
Vihiga County government in its supplementary budget has allocated 28 million shillings towards addressing the challenges posed by the pandemic. Apart from this, the County has trained health workers and Community Health Volunteers as part of preparedness towards the pandemic.
Sabatia MP Alfred Agoi pledged a donation of 600 bags of maize worth 2.4 million shillings and masks worth 600,000 shillings to the Fund. His Hamisi counterpart Dr. Charles Gimose pledged 100 bags of maize to the Fund while Vihiga Senator George Khaniri pledged a cash donation of 200,000 shillings.
Governor Ottichilo was grateful to the leaders for the unity adding that true measure of leadership is defined in times of hardship. He appealed for other well wishers to come on board and contribute towards the initiative.
