BEAUTIFICATION AND UPGRADING
County Government of Vihiga’s Department of Lands, Housing and Urban Development in partnership with the Kenya Urban Support Program (KUSP), a World Bank funded program has completed the beautification and upgrading of Mbale, Majengo, Chavakali and Mudete markets.
Works undertaken include;
✅Laying of cabrals on sidewalks that enabled easy accessibility to the markets and business premises.
✅Opening of drainage systems to control storm waters.
In collaboration with KUSP, the department has also constructed a bio-digestor at Mbale Prisons that will help in waste management, production of gas and at the same time conserve the environment.
Additionally, a 2.8-Kilometre Road named Tsimbalo-Munoywa road has been upgraded and tarmacked at a cost of Kshs. 150M.
The road has opened investment opportunities for economic growth in the area.
To enhance security and a 24-hour working economy, 21 High mast floodlights have been installed in different locations within the county amongst them Majengo, Mbale, Mudete, Chavakali, Vihiga police, Kidundu and Mutsulyu areas.
The Department in partnership with KUSP, has purchased Garbage Trucks, Garbage bins, Skip Loader, Garbage compactor and an Exhauster to help in garbage collection and other waste management activities thus keeping our environment clean.
Recently, the department conducted public participation on validation of the draft Luanda Physical and Land Use development plan in line with upgrading Luanda to a municipality.
