BOOST AGRICULTURAL PRODUCTIVITY

The Department of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries has recently taken a major step to boost Agricultural productivity and empower local farmers by distributing 30 In calf Ayrshire and Friesian heifers to farmer groups in North Maragoli and Tambua wards through the Ward Based fund.

‎The groups have been urged to take good care of the heifers by feeding them right and also advised to work together with livestock extension and veterinary officers on vaccination needs, disease prevention measures and treatments that may arise should the heifers fall ill.

‎They have also been urged to join nearby Dairy Saccos in order to supply raw milk, a move that can potentially increase their profits not only through sales but also exploring opportunities for value addition, thus enhancing their income sustainability and contributing to the local dairy industry’s growth.
