CONSULTATIVE MEETING

Governor Wilber Khasilwa Ottichilo today chaired a consultative meeting between Officers from the County Government of Vihiga, National Government, Shanta Gold Kenya and representatives from Vihiga Artisinal Miners Association to deliberate on issues revolving around Gold mining in the County.
Governor Ottichilo convened the meeting following raised concerns about operations of Shanta Gold – an East Africa-focused gold producer, developer, and explorer currently operating under a prospecting license in Mwibona, Luanda Sub County.
With Vihiga County encouraging investment initiatives for economic growth, Governor Ottichilo emphasized on the need for Shanta Gold to embrace a collaborative and transparent approach while sensitizing all stakeholders and the community at large through public participation forums on its operations.
He added that his administration through the Department of Environment and Natural Resources will work with National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) to critically review the Environmental and Social Impact Assessment report that will guide issuance of the mining licences from the Ministry of Mining and Blue Economy.
