COUNTY NUTRITION BILL

In a bid to promote accessible, equitable, efficient and high-quality nutrition services that is sustainable for the people of Vihiga, the County Government of Vihiga in partnership with Nutrition International has moved to develop a County Nutrition bill following the launch of the Nutrition policy (2022-2032) early this year.

The bill will now ensure all forms of malnutrition in the county are reduced by mainstreaming, well-coordinated and financed multi sectorial approaches for optimal health of all Vihiga County citizens. It will also provide a framework for promoting health and socio-economic development, ensuring optimal nutrition and general wellbeing of the people of Vihiga County in line with the SDGs and Universal Health Coverage.

Governor Wilber Khasilwa Ottichilo acknowledged the importance of nutrition in fighting ailments, noting that the enactment of a bill will create a legal framework for sustainability purposes.

CECM for Health Services Dr. Nicholas Mwandihi on his part stated that Vihiga is the first county to have a nutrition policy, according to it to the political commitment and support from the County Government administration and leadership and that the department now seeks to entrench that into a law through the Nutrition bill.
