H.E. Wilberforce Kitiezo – Deputy Governor Vihiga County today graced the launch of “Strengthening Rural Governance for the Right to Adequate Food” project in Vihiga County led by The Institute for Social Accountability (TISA) in partnership with Welthungerhilfe (WHH) at Sosa Cottages.
TISA in partnership with WHH are implementing phase 2 of the project “Strengthening Rural Governance for the Right to Adequate Food,” an initiative that seeks to ensure vulnerable food and nutrition secure populations using a rights-based approach.
The Deputy Governor thanked the organization for ensuring Vihiga is among counties in Kenya where the project is being implemented, assuring total support from the County Government.
The project is targeting:
1. Smallholder farmers and vulnerable communities
2. Community leaders including village elders
3. Civil Society actors and Journalists at the County and National levels
4. Duty bearers at local, County and National levels
5. Legislators and National/Regional stakeholders
The expected outcomes and outputs from the project are:
1. National actors and partners strengthen the advocacy and Social accountability, integrating the right to food in global policy processes
2. Political, Administrative and Traditional leaders demonstrate accountability and respond to demands especially from marginalized groups
3. Duty bearers enact and implement inclusive policies and programmes that promote accountability and right to food
4. Civil Society coalitions engage decision makers on legal frameworks and policies supporting right to food
