VIHIGA HANDS OVER SITE FOR CONSTRUCTION OF ESP MARKET AT ESIRULO

Vihiga County has handed over Esirulo market site for construction of ultra-modern markets under the Multi-million Economic Stimulus Program (ESP), a partnership between the national government and county governments.

The Esirulo ESP market is intended to boost Vihiga County and Kenya’s economic growth targeting small scale traders in line with the Micro Small and Medium Enterprise economy pillar. The market will accomodate traders within 204 ultra modern smart stalls.

The ground floor will mainly consist of smart stalls to provide display space, storage and security of their wares, cold rooms and administrative offices. The first floors will accommodate offices, revenue center, ICT hub, social hall/boardroom, food court and an ATM lobby. An offsite ablution block accommodating ladies, gents and PWDs will be provided as part of the facility.

The markets will equally have unique facilities such as cold rooms for preserving fresh products with sanitation and water supply taken care of by 5,000 litres UPVC roof tank and 30, 000 litres steel tank fully equipped with booster pumps. The new market will also come with room for lactating mothers/crèche rooms as well as kitchens for restaurants.

The Esirulo Market site handed over on Monday to the contractor, procured by the State Department for Housing and Urban Development, is expected to be completed within 6 months.

Background

The Esirulo ESP Market is the latest project implemented in Vihiga under the existing cooperation with the National Government, coming after the launch for construction of the New Luanda Modern Market on 22nd January 2025 by H.E. Dr. William Samoei Ruto – The President of the Republic of Kenya.
