Masks for the Vulnerable
H.E. Dr. Wilber Ottichilo – Governor Vihiga County today launched production of face masks to be distributed to the vulnerable members of the community at Ebusiralo Vocational Training Centre in Luanda Township Ward.
The Governor was grateful to the department of education through the TVET directorate for mooting the idea of making face masks for the people of Vihiga. “I have seen that great work is being done here and our people will get masks soon” – said the Governor.
The initiative fronted by the County department of Education’s Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) will see 2500 masks produced daily staring Monday next week. The Governor said this will go a long way in mitigating the spread of Covid-19 pandemic in Vihiga.
Chief Officer for TVET Abisai Amatalo said Covid-19 pandemic has brought lots of challenges to the people but in the midst of the challenge, most youths in Vocational training centres have a chance to sharpen their skills in garment making, a discipline that encompasses mask design and making.
Vulnerable families have been mapped by the County under the auspices of County Emergency Response Committee which is chaired by the Governor will receive face masks, hand washes, hand washing equipment and sanitizers as well as foodstuffs to cushion them from the Covid-19 pandemic.
