12 SPORTS TEAMS IN VIHIGA RECEIVE KSHS. 5M FROM THE SPORTS FUND

‎County Government of Vihiga through the Department of Gender, Culture, Youth, Sports and Social Services has today disbursed Kshs. 5M to 12 sports teams in Vihiga, a move that is aimed at enhancing and diversifying sporting activities in the County.
‎In his address during the cheque handing over ceremony held at the County headquarters, Vihiga Governor Dr. Wilber Khasilwa Ottichilo lauded the teams for their unwavering dedication and resilience despite experiencing challenges.
‎Dr. Ottichilo further emphasized on the importance of collaboration to address various sporting challenges such as infrastructure, taking the opportunity to invite all sports stakeholders to actively participate in the ongoing review of the Sports Act and share their insights.
‎On her part, County Executive Committee Member (CECM) in charge of Sports Anne Desma noted that the department will address the gaps presented by representatives to ensure a seamless process going forward.
‎According to the department’s Acting Chief Officer Dominic Luvavo, a total of 19 teams submitted their applications for funding but after a thorough scrutiny, only 12 teams met the required criteria to receive the financial assistance.
‎Teams that did not qualify for support have been encouraged to seek assistance in rectifying their documentation in order to access future funding opportunities.
