ROAD INSPECTION
Vihiga Governor Dr. Wilber Ottichilo alongside Transport CECM Joseph Lunani and Chief Officer Eng. Etale Tunya completed an inspection tour of the rehabilitated roads across the County. This follows a routine maintenance that has been taking place since February this year.
Speaking during the exercise, Dr. Ottichilo expressed his satisfaction that the roads have been done well and were up to standard as was outlined in his 2022-2027 manifesto where he committed that all rural roads will be improved and maintained to all weather motorable standards.
He however noted that drainage is still a major challenge that his administration needs to work on to ensure that the roads remain accessible to Vihiga residents.
As a way of collaborating with residents in maintaining the roads, the Department of Transport took a labour based approach to ensure that residents are actively involved in the exercise to their economic advantage.
According to CECM Joseph Lunani, more than 250 kilometres have been rehabilitated through both machine and labour based approaches, with more than 4,000 County residents being involved in the exercise.
Vihiga County has upto 1300 kilometres of murram roads that are rehabilitated twice every financial year to enhance accessibility and interconnectivity across the County.
