WORKSHOP FOR FARMERS, STAKEHOLDERS AND OTHER PATNERS

Department Of Agriculture Livestock And Fisheries in collaboration with the International Centre for Research in Agroforestry (ICRAF) has organized a three-day workshop for farmers, stakeholders and other patners from Vihiga, Kisumu, and Nandi Counties.
The event is focused on developing strategies for an Organic Resources (bio-input) program that aims to support effective implementation of AgroEcology policies and promoting sustainable AgroEcological farming techniques through production of organic fertilizer from natural waste products.
According to Agriculture Chief Officer Dr. Betty Mulianga, County Government of Vihiga is already ahead of the game following the enactment of an AgroEcology policy that will be officially launched in due course.
Additionally, the County Government has also procured 25 soil augers to facilitate soil sampling in each ward to assist farmers determine the appropriate type of manure for their crops hence ensuring better yield.
ICRAF Lead Prof. Alex Awiti highlighted the selection of Vihiga County for this initiative due to its farmers’ ongoing AgroEcological practices supported by low carbon levels in the soil.
He particularly commended Mika Mukoko, a local farmer, for his exemplary organic farming and waste recycling practices, urging other farmers to embrace the same.
