The County Government of Vihiga in collaboration with the Ministry of Environment, Climate Change and Forestry today officially handed over the Planet GOLD Kenya project to the assigned contractor, a move that gives way to the construction of a State of The Art demonstration centre designed to train artisanal and small scale miners on environmentally sustainable mercury-free Gold extraction techniques.
His Excellency Governor Wilber Khasilwa Ottichilo who had a brief with the delegation led by Mayiani Saino- The Project Manager lauded the National Government for the steadfast implementation of the project and the technical support offered to ensure the whole process is a success thus empowering the young entrprenuers who have interest in mining activities.
“This centre located at Chambiti in Lugaga-Wamuluma Ward will serve as a vital platform for knowledge transfer, enabling miners to engage with innovative and safer technologies that eliminate the use of toxic mercury in gold recovery,” said Ottichilo.
By championing safer mining practices, Ottichilo’s administration reaffirms committment to fostering a green economy, safeguarding the environment and enhancing livelihoodsthrough sustainable resource management.
