VIHIGA COUNTY HOSTS 250 YOUTH AT CHAVAKALI HIGH SCHOOL TO MARK INTERNATIONAL YOUTH DAY

The County Government of Vihiga hosted 250 youth leaders from Luanda, Emuhaya, Vihiga, Sabatia, Hamisi and Tiriki East Sub-Counties to commemorate the International Youth Day at Chavakali High School.
Speaking during the celebrations, the County Government of Vihiga Governor Dr. Wilber Ottichillo expressed his commitment to changing the leadership narrative to have more youth in the county government.
“As I conclude my leadership in this county, I want to ensure that the youth take up the leadership of this county to take it to another level. In my second term, I have taken almost one and a half years to look at the governance structure of this county and come up with a new structure that will allow our youth to have opportunities in various positions in order for them to get into leadership now,” said County Government of Vihiga Governor Dr. Wilber Ottichilo.
The Governor further highlighted the importance of good governance systems in counties. He also encouraged the Vihiga Youth Service Board to come up with a strategic plan for youth and to organize a youth conference to address youth issues.
This year’s International Youth Day globally themed “Local Youth Actions for the SDGs and Beyond” underscored the essential role of local and regional governments. The day marked annually on August 12 was first commemorated by the United Nations in 2000 and has been used as a platform to celebrate youth and promote their engagement.
