MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING

Vihiga is facing challenges of significantly increasing solid waste generation as a rapidly urbanizing and densely populated County.
To address this, the County Government of Vihiga has today entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with M-Taka Waste Solutions Limited.
The MoU aims at establishing a collaborative framework for sustainable solid waste management in Vihiga County. The partnership also seeks to establish an outline for data sharing, enhance capacity among stakeholders, improve waste segregation, promote recycling and facilitate access to markets for waste materials through value chain linkages.
Speaking after witnessing the exercise, Governor Dr. Wilber Khasilwa Ottichilo noted that most people do not understand waste is a valuable resource that can be converted into wealth and thus operationalization of the MoU will revolutionize waste management in Vihiga through creating awareness, building capacity of the young people who will see opportunities and activate initiatives aimed at accelerating transition towards a circular Economy.
According to the County Boss, Vihiga is committed to the partnership and will leverage on M-Taka’s expertise to establish a Material Recovery Facility (MRF) that will enhance waste segregation, material recovery and recycling.
