GROUNDBREAKING EXERCISE

In partnership with the County Departments of Physical Planning, Lands, Housing and Urban Development and Commerce, Tourism, and Cooperatives, officials from the State Department of Housing, Urban Development and Affordable Housing have conducted a groundbreaking exercise for construction of Majengo, Banja and Mbale markets.
According to County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Physical Planning Prof. Mike Iravo, the projects are part of President William Ruto’s agenda to ensure construction of 400 modern markets countrywide, a move that has seen Luanda, Esibuye and Esirulo markets already in progress.
Majengo and Banja markets will have 200 stalls each whereas Mbale will have 1,000 stalls.
In addition, all the markets will house an ablution block, a child nursing area for breastfeeding mothers, an ICT Centre, offices, underground and elevated water tanks.
The main objective of these markets is to improve working conditions for traders, enhance food safety, improve business growth, create jobs and increase revenue.
