ADVANCING RESILIENT NUTRITION SENSITIVE AQUACULTURE (ARNSA) PROJECT

Fish farmers in Vihiga County under the Norwegian Agency for Development Corporation (NORAD) – Advancing Resilient Nutrition Sensitive Aquaculture (ARNSA) project have today received the first batch of fish feeds from the project at the county headquarters.
Speaking during the flagging off of the feeds, Vihiga Governor Dr. Wilber Khasilwa Ottichilo apologized to the farmers for the delays in the dispatch of the feeds from the National Government while appreciating the efforts farmers put in to ensure the survival of the fingerlings. He noted that through the project, a small processing plant will be set up at the Mwitoko Aquaculture Center for the production of local feeds to be sold at a cheaper price. In addition to that,he noted the plans are to write another proposal that will propel the project further for five years.
According to the County Project Coordinator Wilson Munala, all the 450 selected farmers will each receive eight bags of the fish feeds. To ensure the harvested fish get to market, two fish kiosks are being set up at Kaimosi and Chavakali for purposes of aggregation and value addition.
