NEEDS-GAP ASSESSMENT FOR TUNZA PROJECT IN VIHIGA COUNTY

45 groups have been selected from the 375 that applied to join the TUNZA project following a successful sensitization process across the county. The selection, undertaken through the Department of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries, represents all six sub-counties in the first phase of the project.
To facilitate effective implementation, the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations has carried out a verification and needs-gap assessment for the selected groups. The exercise led by the Regional Coordinator for the Nandi Region, Michael Bett, aims to inform tailored programmes aligned to each group’s needs and value chain.
TUNZA is a project funded by the Green Climate Fund (GCF) and is being implemented in partnership with FAO and the National Government of Kenya to support smallholder farmers in the coffee, tea, fruit trees, and poultry value chains. The project will also collaborate with the county land management team to identify degraded lands for restoration while strengthening the cooperative component to help farmers transition into cooperatives and access larger markets by the end of the project.
