PWDs IN VIHIGA RECEIVE SUPPORTIVE DEVICES AS COUNTY MARKS INTERNATIONAL DAY FOR PERSONS WITH DISABILITIES

The International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD) is celebrated on 3rd December every year and aims at promoting the rights and well-being of persons with disabilities at every level of society and development.
Additionally, it raises awareness of the situation of Persons with Disabilities in all aspects of political, social, economic and cultural life.
To celebrate this important day themed ‘Fostering Disability Inclusive Societies for Advancing Social Progress’, County Government of Vihiga in partnership with Rani Ramchandani Foundation. donated supportive devices to more than 100 Persons With Disabilities (PWDs) in an event graced by Governor Dr. Wilber Khasilwa Ottichilo today at the Mbale Municipal grounds.
In his remarks, Dr. Ottichilo urged the PWDs to ensure they register with the National Council for Persons with Disabilities (NCPWD) for them to access government support and financial opportunities.
He further directed the Department Of Gender, Culture, Youth and Sports – Vihiga County to map all PWDs in Vihiga and create a database that will enable the County trace them with ease.
According to Dr. Ruth Agesa – CECM Gender,Youths,sports ,Culture and social services, the department has recruited disability officers and designated an office block to specifically handle matters to do with disability.
Among the supportive devices donated include;
✅Wheelchairs
✅Tricycles
✅Arm Crutches
✅Elbow Crutches
✅White Canes
✅Walking Frames
✅Walking Sticks
Tisa Kenya, National Council for Persons with Disabilities (NCPWD) were among partners that supported the event.
