PROJECT

As the Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation (NORAD) – Advancing Resilient Nutrition Sensitive Aquaculture (ARNSA) project comes to a close this December, a team from the Aquaculture Business Development Program (Gok/IFAD) steering committee visited the various project sites and later paid a courtesy call to Vihiga County Governor Dr. Wilber Khasilwa Ottichilo.
Led by Mr. Liyayi Magotsi from the Ministry of Interior and Coordination, the team’s visit was to establish the program’s progress so far, identify challenges and engage stakeholders on its sustainability. According to Magotsi, in the past six months, Vihiga County has achieved more through integrated fish farming, aquaponics systems, training , smart fish kiosk construction, black soldier fly production for fish feeds and much more. He further noted that the in-kind contribution from the farmers contributed to the success of the project and as the steering committee, they will ensure that Vihiga is included during the second phase.
In Sabatia Sub-County one of the beneficiaries of the project, Collins Amugune, is already harvesting his fish with the smallest weighing 350 grams and the largest 816 grams. He looks forward to buying more fish fingerlings from the proceeds of harvested fish.
In addition, a team from the Mozambique NORAD project also benchmarked the aquaculture progress in the County.
