CULTURAL INVESTMENT CONFERENCE

Vihiga County is set to pitch its cultural Indigenous Knowledge (IK) assets at the first cultural investment conference to be held in Murang’a County between 21st and 23rd April 2026, organized by Natural Products Industry (NPI) under the National Museums of Kenya in the State Department of Culture.
In a courtesy call to Governor Dr. Wilber Khasilwa Ottichilo , President of the Young Cultural Champions of Vihiga Lung’afa Igunza updated the County Boss on the various stakeholder sessions that have happened, leading to documentation, review, prioritization and packaging of Vihiga’s IK assets for investment purposes.
The items include;
1. Vukhulu Tiriki Dance
2. Value Added and Naturally preserved Tsisaga and African Leafy Vegetables
3. Basketry and Handwork
4. Nammonywa Rain making Heritage Shrine
5. Medicine for Prostate enlargement (now undergoing quality assessment in the National Drugs Study Laboratory)
Lung’afa also advocated for support to design and market cultural dressings, research and publish in mother languages (sample case of Amahoolu Avalogooli Magazine), materials for creative artwork and more for increased youth participation in economic development through culture.
In his remarks, the Governor noted past successes since the Indigenous Knowledge Documentation and Digitization (IKDODI) roll out in Vihiga as one of the 13 pilot Counties. He further committed to offer support for good presentation and winning of investment in the Cultural Assets of Vihiga.
