AFRICAN POPULATION AND HEALTH RESEARCH CENTER (APHRC) TO CONDUCT A STUDY ON YOUNG ADOLESCENTS IN VIHIGA COUNTY

The African Population and Health Research Center (APHRC) is set to conduct a Kenya Young Adolescents Gender Norms Study (K-YAGNS) in Vihiga County between November and December 2025. The study, which aligns with the Kenya Adolescent Health Policy (2025 draft), will seek to generate evidence on gender norms and attitudes among young adolescents. It will explore how these norms relate to health and socio-economic outcomes and share insights with policymakers, programme implementers, researchers, and other stakeholders to support more informed decision-making.
In Kenya, young adolescents aged 10–14 make up about 13% of our country’s population according to the 2019 Census yet they remain one of the most neglected groups with few policies, programmes and lack national-level data on their health and wellbeing.
The study, which will be conducted in partnership with the Departments of Health, Education, and Gender, will contribute to a deeper understanding of young adolescents.
