Agricultural Value Chain Actors
The Department of Agriculture Livestock and Fisheries in collaboration with the National Agricultural Value Chain Development Project (NAVCDP) is in the process of recruiting 280 Agricultural Value Chain Actors (Agripreneurs) at the County level.
This comes after the Value Chain Selection Sub Committee through the County Technical Advisory Committee (CTAC) in the said department conducted sensitization forums on value chain selection in the upcoming National Agricultural Value Chain Development Project (NAVCDP) which is succeeding NARGIP.
According to Chief Officer Dominic Luvavo NAVCDP will be done in 33 counties and which Vihiga was also included due to the exemplary results showcased NARGIP. The program will cover five value chains where all the four value chains from NARGIP will be retained with one expected to be added. The new program will also focus on enhancing and improving agriculture cooperatives and saccos. Registration of farmers to the project will start officially in September this year.
The value chains proposed for the farmers to choose from are:-
✅ Avocado
✅ Aquaculture
✅ Apiculture.
NAVCDP will focus on commercialization, growth potential, export market potential, social inclusivity, reach small holder farmers, competitiveness in gross margins and value addition.
