ARTISANAL AND SMALL-SCALE MINERS
CECM incharge of Environment, Water, Energy, Natural Resources and Climate Change Onzere Mulongo today joined Artisanal and Small-scale miners during the official launch of the Vihiga Artisanal and Small-scale Mining Association (VASMA) in Chavakali Ward, Sabatia Sub County.
VASMA brings together registered miners in Vihiga with the objective to sensitize members on mining sector regulations and increase awareness of best available technologies, safety and environmental practices.
According to Chief Officer in charge of Natural Resources Dr. Richard Boiyo, County Government of Vihiga in collaboration with the National Government through the Planet Gold programme aims to train Artisanal and Small-scale miners to significantly improve the production practices and work environment through connecting mining communities with mercury-free technology.
