Exciting developments are unfolding in Vihiga! Today, Governor Dr. Wilber Khasilwa Ottichilo welcomed a delegation from China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC) to the County Headquarters. The team’s visit marks an important step as they explore Vihiga’s vast bamboo potential and meet with local farmers. Their mission: to identify the best site for Kenya’s very first factory dedicated to engineered bamboo products.
Governor Ottichilo expressed heartfelt appreciation to Victor Mwanga, whose invitation and tireless work in bamboo farming and product innovation helped bring this opportunity home to Vihiga. The Governor highlighted Mwanga’s passion as a shining example of local ingenuity driving real change.
The Governor reassured the CCECC delegation that Vihiga is ready to lead in sustainable green value chains, with county efforts already championing bamboo not just for its economic promise, but also for its environmental benefits. He emphasized ongoing restoration of wetlands as part of this holistic approach to sustainability.
With CCECC exploring collaborations across the broader western region and the Lake Region Economic Bloc (LREB), Governor Ottichilo reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to creating a welcoming environment for investors. These partnerships, he said, are vital for the continued economic growth and transformation of Vihiga County.
