CLIMATE FINANCE CAPACITY BUILDING HANDBOOK

Governor Dr. Wilber Khasilwa Ottichilo today unveiled the Climate Finance Capacity Building Handbook, a practical tool designed to empower Counties in planning and securing Climate Finance.

This succeeded a keynote address on access to Climate Financing at Sub National level at a side event organized by GIZ Kenya, titled “Financing Climate Resilience in Cities and Counties.”

Dr. Ottichilo highlighted best practices of Kenyan Counties that have effectively secured Climate Finance, Climate Justice detailing their journeys and Achievements.

Specifically for Vihiga, in order to enhance resilience in Water sector, the County Government, through the Financing Locally-Led Climate Action (FLLoCA) program and own allocation has invested over Kshs. 300M in more than 20 Solar-powered water schemes.

These projects have enabled more than 10,000 households across the County, among them vulnerable rural households, access clean and safe water. The projects also encompasses conservation of the respective catchment areas for sustainability of the supply.
