CLIMATE RESILIENT, LOW CARBON AND SUSTAINABLE AGRICULTURE VALUE CHAINS (CRLCSA) PROJECT

The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations is introducing a Climate Resilient, Low Carbon and Sustainable Agriculture Value Chains (CRLCSA) project in Vihiga County and the larger Lake Region Economic Bloc (LREB).
Speaking during the introductory meeting, the Department of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries’ Chief Officer Dr. Betty Mulianga noted that the project aims to transform agricultural value chains toward low carbon and climate resilient pathways through a locally led approach.
The project which will focus on dairy, poultry, coffee, fruit trees, and African leafy vegetables intends to transfer and upscale both adaptation and mitigation technology at each value chain’s production, harvesting, processing, and marketing stages.
It will be structured around four components below:
Component one will enhance Public agro-climate services.
Component two will be about restoration of degraded agricultural landscapes
Component three deals with increasing small holders climate resilience production using climate resilient and low carbon technologies.
Component four deals with climate resilient, low carbon value chain and upscaled by adoption of new business models.
