EDUCATION STAKEHOLDERS’ MEETING

County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Education, Science, Technical and Vocational Training Anne Desma today represented the County Government of Vihiga at an Education Stakeholders’ meeting held at Friends School Mbale.
The meeting reviewed the report on the current status of Mbale Boys High School, charting way forward to restore normal operations and prevent future unrest.
Desma reaffirmed the County Government’s appreciation of the school as one of the leading Extra-County schools in the region, assuring stakeholders of the County’s commitment in implementing the Board of Management’s report that includes providing a conducive environment for the new principal as he takes up leadership to rebuild and restore order.
She further emphasized on the need to uphold discipline in line with school regulations and the Education Act, informing the public that while the County Education Scholarship Programme continues to support current beneficiaries, no new admissions will be made following the Controller of Budget’s directives.
For sustainable progress, she called on the Principal and the Board of Management to:
Identify students’ pressure points and triggers

Enhance regular dialogue among students, teachers and parents

Establish a strong Guidance and Counselling unit

Enforce school rules while encouraging parents to support learners in adhering to them
