INDUCTION TRAINING

The Department of Agriculture Livestock and Fisheries through the National Agricultural Value Chain Development Project (NAVCDP) has completed a two day induction training for the newly elected ward based Sacco leaders.The training was focused on understanding and implementing the Cooperative Business Model and strategies for effective membership mobilization.
‎To achieve the agenda of the training, the Sacco leaders were taken through the following topics:
✅ Cooperative philosophy and Sacco business model
✅ Duties and responsibilities of management committees and sub-committees
✅ Resource mobilization
✅ Governance and compliance measures in saccos
✅ Cooperative membership, rights, obligation and mobilization strategies
✅ Financial Management and controls
✅ Credit administration
✅ Grievance management mechanism
‎The training’s overall goal is to equip the Sacco leaders with the necessary knowledge and tools to recruit dedicated members and effectively maintain the Saccos. This foundational step is vital for the successful implementation of the NAVCDP Project, which aims to increase marketing participation and value addition.
‎According to CECM Commerce and Tourism Joseph Lunani, for farmers to get more benefits they need to practice collective marketing, bargaining and save more through the Saccos which will enable them get affordable -low interest loans. Youths have also been urged to join the Saccos and venture into agribusiness for them to grow and reap big given the less available white collar jobs at the moment.
