JOINT MISSION

A joint mission team comprising of Government of Kenya (GOK) and International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) from the Aquaculture Business Development Programme (ABDP) today paid a courtesy call to Governor Dr. Wilber Khasilwa Ottichilo.
Led by IFAD Country Program Coordinator Ronald Ajengo, the team is in the county to monitor the progress of the Norwegian Agency for Development Corporation (NORAD) – Advancing Resilient Nutrition Sensitive Aquaculture (ARNSA) project that began late last year.
In his remarks, Dr. Ottichilo appreciated the team for considering Vihiga fish farmers in their noble project, a move that has made great steps in advancing resilient and nutrition -sensitive smallholder aquaculture.
He further urged farmers to embrace locally-produced fish feeds as a cost-effective alternative to the manufactured feeds, reiterating on the need to engage in Agribusiness through value addition on the harvested fish.
According to the County Project Coordinator Wilson Munala, all the selected 450 fish farmers together with two secondary schools (Nyango’ri Boys and Moi Girls Vokoli) have received their predator and birds nets, fingerlings and feeds.
In addition, the Directorate also received a vehicle and three motorcycles to ease extension services.
