KEVEYE, MASENO, GIMOMOI AND BUSAINA VTCS TO RECEIVE LAPTOPS DONATED BY STANBIC FOUNDATION TO ENHANCE DIGITAL SKILLING

The County Government of Vihiga has received a donation of 40 laptops from the Stanbic Foundation. The donation enabled by an existing Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the county government and Stanbic Foundation that will enhance digital skilling across Vocational Training Centres (VTCs).
The laptops donated through the Department of Education will be distributed to Keveye, Maseno, Gimomoi, and Busaina Vocational Training Centres following a recent Training of Trainers (TOT) exercise where a key gap identified was the lack of adequate digital devices to support learning.
County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Education, Science, Technical and Vocational Training, Ann Desma, assured the partners that the County will prioritise proper maintenance of the machines and ensure learners benefit from improved digital literacy and learning opportunities.
The initiative focuses on building capacity in digital skills and equipping trainees with competencies that enhance their employability. Stanbic Foundation is working to bridge the digital gap by ensuring instructors trained in artificial intelligence can cascade their knowledge to learners within the centres. In addition, Stanbic continues to partner with Microsoft to expand access to digital skills for both trainers and students.
“As we donate these laptops, we are looking to ensure that our young people can access learning content and be supported in the Vocational Training Centres. Through this donation, we will be able to open up our centres for young people to utilise them and sharpen their skills to get opportunities in the creative economy, digital economy, and even to grow and scale their businesses,” said Stanbic Foundation Head of Programs Dorine Nalo.
This partnership directly supports the County Integrated Development Plan, 2023-2027, commitments to strengthen vocational training and expand access to technology-enabled learning. It also aligns with Sustainable Development Goal 4, which calls for inclusive and equitable quality education and the promotion of lifelong learning opportunities for all, particularly through digital literacy and skills development.
