LUANDA AND KAIMOSI TOWNS RECOMMENDED TO BE ELEVATED TO MUNICIPALITY STATUS

The County Government of Vihiga has today received reports on the elevation of Luanda and Kaimosi towns to municipalities after a 21-day exercise carried out by the appointed ad hoc committees.
The ad hoc committees handed over their reports to the Vihiga County Governor recommending the towns be elevated to municipalities having found that the towns met the set requirements to be upgraded.
Speaking during the reports handover ceremony, Vihiga County Governor Dr. Wilber Ottichilo congratulated the committees for their work in enabling the realization of more municipalities in the county.
“We are now achieving a goal which we set eight years ago and this has taught us to be patient because if we were not patient and determined we would have given up during the process. I want to thank the ad hoc committees for doing an excellent job having taken only 21 days to give us the report and congratulate the people of Luanda and CheptuluKaimosi for finally getting what we have been yearning for for many years,” said the Vihiga County Governor Dr. Wilber Ottichilo.
The Governor announced that he would move on to present the reports to the County Assembly for approval. Dr. Wilber Ottichilo also encouraged the soon-to-be municipalities to maintain professionalism when setting up their boards to have members with technical expertise to lead the municipalities.
The handover ceremony was also attended by members of the county executive and members of the county assembly, and representatives from Luanda and Kaimosi business committees who all affirmed their support and excitement to elevate the towns to municipalities.
The ad hoc committees were established in line with the Urban Areas and Cities Act and ensured gender balance to have equal representation. The committees included members from the Institution of Surveyors Kenya (ISK), the Architectural Association of Kenya (AAK), Kenya Institute of Planners (KIP) and the Institute of Certified Public Accountants in Kenya (ICPAK).
