MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING
Vihiga Governor Dr. Wilber Khasilwa Ottichilo together with Cabinet Secretary for Ministry of Mining, Blue Economy and Maritime Affairs Hon. Ali Hassan Joho, EGH and State Department for Blue Economy and Fisheries Betsy Muthoni have today signed the NORAD/ARNSA (Advancing Resilient Nutrition Sensitive aquaculture) Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Ministry of and County Government of Vihiga.
The main objective of this program is to:
Economically empower fish farmers

Contribute to food security Reduce fish feeds cost through local production
Reduce fish feeds cost through local production Tap in the global demand of fish exportation
Tap in the global demand of fish exportation Enhance value addition for Agribusiness

Involvement of youths and women
To show readiness and ensure that the Kshs. 69M shillings project is fully implemented through Directorate of Fisheries in the Department Of Agriculture Livestock And Fisheries , the Department has already mapped out 450 fish farmers across the County and identified two secondary schools (Moi Girls Vokoli and Nyango’ri Boys) to pilot the program.
In addition, the department has also constructed Mwitoko Fish Hatchery and Training Centre and employed extension officers in every ward.
