MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING (MOU)

The County Government of Vihiga has today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Nutrition International for the organization’s transition year to sustain gains made in the past 5 years as they prepare for the next grant cycle.
The Vihiga County Governor Dr. Wilber Khasilwa Ottichilo thanked the Nutrition International team for continuing their engagement with Vihiga County and the County Assembly for their role in supporting the first phase of the partnership. He further noted that the engagement with Nutrition International has enabled the formulation of the Nutrition Policy whose implementation framework is in process and the Vihiga Food and Nutrition Security Bill, 2025, which has been forwarded to the County Assembly for approval.
The Nutrition International team led by the Kenya Country Director Dr. Martha Nyagaya highlighted that the partnership has seen the county move from a starting baseline for stunting growth rates in children under 5 of 26% in 2014 when the engagement started to an end line figure of 16.6% which is below the national average.
The County Government of Vihiga has been partnering with Nutrition International since 2015 to run key programs, including capacity building for frontline healthcare workers and CHPs, and the formation of Mother-to-Mother and Father-to-Father groups, among others.
