MEMORANDUMS OF UNDERSTANDING (MOUS)

Kaimosi Friends University and Kaimosi Friends National Polytechnic have today signed Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with Vignan’s Foundation of Science, Technology and Research (VFSTR), India, agreements witnessed by Vihiga County Governor H.E. Dr. Wilber Ottichilo.
The partnership follows a visit in May 2025, when a delegation from the County Government of Vihiga, led by Governor Ottichilo, visited Vignan University in India, an engagement that laid the groundwork for the collaboration.
Speaking during the MoU signing, Governor Ottichilo emphasised the importance of research in development, noting that research generates data that can be analysed to inform rational decision-making. He underscored the critical role of science, technology, and research in knowledge creation, stating that universities remain credible centres of knowledge where research is mandatory.
KAFU Vice Chancellor Prof. Peter Muita for his part outlined key aspirations of the partnership, including staff exchange programmes where faculty from KAFU will travel to Vignan to teach, conduct research, and access advanced technology, while VFSTR staff will also visit KAFU to teach and utilise local facilities in advancing knowledge.
The collaboration will also support areas where KAFU currently lacks specialised lecturers, particularly in medical-related fields, through visiting faculty who will assist both students and staff. Other focus areas include joint research initiatives involving staff and students, as well as collaborative proposal writing aimed at attracting research funding.
Also present, the Deputy Principal (Administration) of Kaimosi Friends National Polytechnic, Ms. Lilian Cherotich thanked the Governor and the County Government of Vihiga for facilitating the partnership, noting that it will enhance exchange programmes and institutional collaboration with Vignan University.
The County Government of Vihiga continues to collaborate with KAFU, including positioning the institution as a centre of excellence in climate action and the Kaimosi Friends National Polytechnic through the Department of Education.
