NORAD

Following the successful launch of the Norwegian Agency for Development Corporation (NORAD) – Advancing Resilient Nutrition Sensitive Aquaculture (ARNSA) grant, which provided birdnets, predator nets, fingerlings and feeds to fish farmers, the directorate of Fisheries has taken the initiative of educating beneficiaries on how to efficiently and securely install the bird and predator nets around their fish ponds.
Technical officers from the directorate hosted a comprehensive demonstration at one of the ponds in Gisambai ward that incorporated fish farmers from the area.
The process involved strategically placing strong poles around the pond, leaving enough room for accessibility during feeding and fishing.
This was followed by careful installation of predator nets, which were fitted around the sides of the pond, while bird nets extended over the top and along the edges, creating a protective barrier.
These measures not only safeguard the fingerlings and mature fish from predators but also enhance growth conditions.
The event was attended by Area Member of County Assembly (MCA) Hon. Erick Odei, who encouraged farmers to view aquaculture as a business opportunity.
He further emphasized the importance of ensuring security of both the nets and fish feeds supplied through the project to ensure sustainability and profitability of their ventures.
