PARTNERSHIP MEETING

Governor Dr. Wilber Khasilwa Ottichilo today held a partnership meeting with a team from Ministry of Health, UNICEF Kenya and NCD Alliance Kenya on strengthening Referral Networks and Community-Based Care for Childhood-Onset Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs).
The partnership seeks to assess the current state of referral systems, primary and community-based care and school-based platforms for childhood-onset NCDs (including T1D) in Vihiga County, in order to identify gaps, strengths and practical opportunities that will inform the co-creation of county implementation plans.
Governor Ottichilo took the opportunity to appreciate the team for supporting NCD programs in Vihiga, a move that has reduced the economic burden on residents. He further affirmed his administration’s commitment on addressing NCDs, calling on a collaborative approach to enhance awareness creation at community level.
NCD Alliance Kenya also donated a Gazelle sickle cell confirmatory test machine designed for rapid detection of sickle cell disease that will improve services at Hamisi Sub County Hospital pen plus clinic thus cutting down on Referrals.
