Revival of Coffee Farming

County Government of Vihiga in partnership with the National Government has initiated the revival of coffee farming in Vihiga County aimed at enriching farmers and young entrepreneurs with diverse ideas of getting to explore farming in a different way.
Through the Ministry of Cooperatives, 5,000 farmers are expected to benefit from the program that has already kicked off, following a recent visit by Cabinet Secretary (CS) for Cooperatives and Micro Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) Dr. Wycliffe Ambetsa Oparanya.
During the visit, the CS handed over 10,000 coffee seedlings for distribution to farmers and committed to his Ministry supplying additional 50,000 seedlings for distribution across the County.
Moreover, the Ministry will be rolling out a program for Capacity Building to the farmers to ensure they are well informed on modern techniques of coffee farming that has competitive profitable prices.
So far, more than 1,500 farmers drawn from all the six Sub Counties in Vihiga have been equipped with new techniques on coffee farming and introduced to a new breed of seeds that leads to a profitable harvest.
