REVIVING COFFEE FARMING IN VIHIGA COUNTY

Through the Directorates of Agriculture and Cooperatives, County Government of Vihiga today held a training and sensitization exercise on geo-mapping and data collection for European Union Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) compliance in coffee-growing areas across the County.
‎The exercise, coordinated by representatives from the Agricultural and Food Authority (AFA) Coffee Directorate and Kenya Forest Service, brought together selected Enumerators, Sub-County Agricultural Officers (SCAOs) and Coffee Society Managers.
‎EUDR is critical in ensuring Kenya’s Coffee remains competitive globally with the European Union (EU), currently accounting for 55% of the County’s Coffee exports.
‎The exercise’s main objective is to ensure mapping of Coffee farmers, digitize farmer’s bio-data, develop a centralized database, support Kenya’s coffee growers and exporters to maintain the EU market.
‎County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries Julius Maruja urged Coffee farmers to embrace the registration exercise in order to reap big as Coffee revival process continues.
