SENSITIZATION FORUM

The County Government of Vihiga is set to roll out a foot and mouth disease vaccination exercise across the county to ensure contribution to improved food and nutrition, poverty alleviation, and resilience among livestock-dependent households.
‎Speaking during a sensitization forum for the Ward Committee for the e-voucher subsidy vaccination program, the Vihiga County Project Coordinators for NAVCDP Charles Aluda and Veterinary Services Dr. Darlington Kadenge noted that the exercise will kick off in October this year and targets to vaccinate over 80,000 heads of cattle from all the 25 wards in the county. They further urged the committee to conduct thorough sensitization and mobilization in their respective wards to ensure the success of this program.
✅ Veterinary Para-Professionals under the supervision of Veterinary Surgeons will move from house to house during the vaccination exercise.
✅ It will cost the farmer only KES. 50 per head of cattle, with the government subsiding the cost by paying KES. 110 per head of cattle.
✅The routine vaccination will help in curbing foot and mouth disease that causes high mortality, low milk production, and high costs of treatment.
‎The vaccination exercise will be conducted as a partnership between the National Government and the County Government of Vihiga’s Department of Agriculture, Livestock & Fisheries through the National Agricultural Value Chain Development Project (NAVCDP).
