NuPEA Engages LREB Stakeholders on Proposed Nuclear Power Plant
Officials Discuss Economic Prospects and Energy Security in Western Kenya
The Nuclear Power and Energy Agency of Kenya (NuPEA) has intensified its outreach efforts by engaging local leaders and stakeholders in the Lake Region Economic Bloc (LREB) regarding the proposed nuclear power plant in Siaya County. In a visit marked by high-level discussions, a delegation led by NuPEA Chair, Professor Lawrence Gumbe, met with Governor Dr. Wilber Khasilwa Ottichilo to explore the project’s potential impact on the region.
During the meeting, Professor Gumbe shared detailed insights on how the proposed nuclear initiative could serve as an economic catalyst, not only for the LREB but for the country at large. He emphasized that the adoption of nuclear energy could spur job creation, stimulate industrial growth, and position Kenya as a hub for advanced energy solutions in East Africa.
Governor Ottichilo welcomed the dialogue, underscoring the importance of fostering public awareness about nuclear energy’s safety and benefits. He noted that widespread understanding and community engagement are essential in gaining public support for the project and ensuring the region’s long-term energy security.
As part of its campaign, NuPEA is actively advocating for Kenya’s broader nuclear energy programme, aiming to address the nation’s growing energy demands. The ongoing consultations reflect a collaborative approach, with officials committed to transparency and inclusivity as the country weighs its nuclear future.
