The Vihiga County Climate Change Act, 2025

The Vihiga County Climate Change Act, 2025 was enacted to establish Climate Change governance structures and finance framework. The governance structures proposed by the Act include the Ward Climate Change Planning Committees (WCCPCs).
In this regard, the Directorate of Climate Change has successfully completed re-establishment of the WCCPCs across the County following a 3-year term lapse of the inaugural committees.
The process of re-establishment was guided by regulations where delegates were mobilized across the wards to represent the interest groups as outlined in section 21 of the Vihiga County Climate Change Act, 2025.
The exercise allowed for community sensitization on Climate change, Climate Change governance structures and election of representatives of WCCPCs in all the 25 Wards who will facilitate citizen participation in Climate Action for enhanced monitoring, social inclusion and accountability.
The elected committees will be trained to build capacity for them to effectively discharge their duties as stipulated in section 22 of the Vihiga County Climate Change Act, 2025.
