TREE PLANTING INITIATIVE

Director in charge of Environment and Natural Resources Aquila Lwanga alongside other County Government of Vihiga officers today joined Vokoli Girls High School fraternity for the launch of a County Tree Planting Initiative.
Organized by the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) in collaboration with other Ministry of Education stakeholders, the exercise is expected to take place for the entire week across the country as part of the lead-up activities to World Teachers’ Day which is celebrated annually on 5th October.
Led by the Regional Director for TSC, Speakers commended the County Government’s role in advancing Environmental action in the County especially the School Greening program. A program that imparts environmental conservation skills and attitudes to learners at an early age.
So far the program has benefited 257 schools with more than 100,000 fruit and indigenous seedlings distributed and grown across the County.
On her part, Aquila used the opportunity to sensitize participants on sustainable conservation practices and reaffirmed the commitment to strengthen future collaborative frameworks with the institution and Ministry of Education.
