TUNZA PROJECT

The TUNZA Project being implemented in Vihiga County is a collaborative initiative between The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations and the Kenyan Government, sets to revolutionize sustainable agriculture and climate resilience in Kenya’s Lake Region Economic Block.
With a focus on coffee, fruit trees, poultry, and tea value chains, the project seeks to incorporate agroecological practices with the aim to:
Enhance public agro-climate services.
Increase smallholder climate resilience and production using climate-resilient low-carbon technologies.
Ensure the financial sustainability of climate-resilient and low-carbon value chains.
As part of the onboarding and implementation process, farmer groups have already handed in their proposals which are under review with Vihiga taking number 3 in the LREB region on submissions. Inductions and training for various stakeholders in the Departments of Environment and Agriculture are also taking place to ensure effective understanding of the project.
