VIHIGA COUNTY CLIMATE CHANGE ACT

According to Section 16 of the Vihiga County Climate Change Act, 2025, there shall be establishment of a County Climate Change Planning Committee (CCCPC) appointed by the County Executive Committee Member in charge of Department of Climate Change and shall comprise of;

Chief Officer responsible for Climate Change matters who shall be the Chairperson

Director responsible for Climate Change matters who shall be the Secretary

County Director responsible for Disaster Management

County Director responsible for Agriculture

County Director responsible for Environment

County Director responsible for Public Health

County Director responsible for Lands

County Director responsible for Water

County Director responsible for Gender, Culture, Youth, Sports and Social Services

County Director responsible for Finance

County Director responsible for Meteorology

County Director of the National Environment Management Authority (NEMA)

One representative of duly registered public benefit organization working in the County on matters Climate Change nominated by the Vihiga Civil Society umbrella organization

Pursuant to Section 19 of the same Act, the newly constituted team today completed a two-day Induction and inaugural meeting aimed at;

Strengthening their capacity to fulfill their mandate under the Act

Introducing them to Climate Change and the County Climaye Change Fund Mechanism

Highlighting Climate-Action milestones achieved in Vihiga as per the Climate Change Action Plan 2023-2027

Presenting and Approving the Financial Year 2024/2025 annual report

Reviewing, Refining and Adopting the Vihiga Climate Change Work Plan 2025/2026 in readiness for approval by the County Climate Change Steering Committee that is chaired by Governor Dr. Wilber Khasilwa Ottichilo
