VIHIGA COUNTY COMMEMORATES WORLD FOOD DAY 2025

The County Government of Vihiga, through the Department of Agriculture, Livestock, and Fisheries, today joined the global community in commemorating World Food Day at Kavilex Enterprise Farm in Gisambai, Hamisi Sub-county, under the theme “Hand in Hand for Better Food and a Better Future.”
The event provided a platform for farmers to showcase a wide range of agricultural produce, livestock, and aquaculture products while gaining valuable insights from agricultural experts on sustainable and profitable modern farming practices.
Speaking on behalf of H.E. Governor Dr. Wilber Ottichilo the County Executive Committee Member for Agriculture Julius Maruja encouraged farmers to strengthen their collaboration through SACCOs and cooperatives to access affordable financing, improve market access, and embrace value addition for increased productivity.
The Chief Officer for Agriculture, Dr. Betty Mulianga, underscored the importance of adopting environmentally friendly farming methods such as mulching, use of organic fertilizers, irrigation, intercropping, crop rotation, and soil testing to enhance food security and nutrition across the county.
The County Government remains committed to realizing the goals of the Vihiga County Integrated Development Plan (CIDP) 2023–2027, which prioritizes food and nutrition security through sustainable agriculture, farmer empowerment, and value addition.
