VIHIGA COUNTY ECDE LEARNERS TO BENEFIT FROM SOYA PREMIX FEEDING PROGRAMME

The Department of Education, Science, Technical and Vocational Training, led by CECM Anne Desma, emphasized that the soya premix school feeding programme would improve learner health and nutrition, and support community-based agricultural initiatives thus promoting holistic child development, increased school attendance, and better learner outcomes.
Good nutrition is vital for ECDE learners as it supports optimal growth, development, academic performance, school attendance, and participation in extracurricular activities. The soya premix school feeding programme has been designed to improve the nutritional status of ECDE learners, promote academic, extracurricular and school attendance and support optimal growth, development and overall health of young children.
It also aims to increase availability of soya in the community, promote the awareness of soya as a high value and soil enriching crop, break pest cycles through crop rotation and sustainable soya cultivation, empower local farmers economically through soya production and market access and strengthen community food security through local soya production.
