VIHIGA RESIDENTS TO RECEIVE IMPROVED WATER SERVICES AS VIWASCO GETS NEW BOARD MEMBERS AND OFFICES

Residents of Vihiga County have today received a boost in the water sector following the revamping of Vihiga Water Services Company (VIWASCO), initially dubbed Amatsi Water Company.
In subsequent functions that saw inauguration of new VIWASCO members of the Board of Directors and official opening of the company’s new offices adjacent to Mbale Municipal grounds, the move is expected to provide a seamless link between the company and County Government of Vihiga’s water department thus enhancing effective and efficient service delivery.
During subsequent functions including the inauguration of the new VIWASCO Board of Directors and the official opening of the company’s new offices adjacent to the Mbale Municipal Grounds, the move was positioned as a step toward providing a seamless link to foster closer collaboration between VIWASCO and the County Government of Vihiga’s water department thereby promoting more effective and efficient service delivery.
Speaking at the official opening of the VIWASCO offices, Vihiga County Governor Dr. Wilber Ottichilo tasked the new board to embark on automating water services, an initiative he said will alleviate the loss of 45% non-revenue water. Dr. Ottichilo noted that in doing so this will aid in mapping VIWASCO clients hence increasing revenue prospects. He further encouraged VIWASCO to adopt green energy to avoid disruptions in water supply.
‘‘We have constructed more than 24 solarized water projects and as a result, I want us to transition from main grid electricity to green energy,” said the Governor.
On his part, Deputy Governor Wilberforce Kitiezo noted that the County administration is committed to ensuring residents receive piped water at their door step.
The newly-inaugurated members of the Board of Directors include; Josephine Nyambasi, Dr. Robert Kati, Solomon Omutoko, Beverly Imire, John Chepseba, CPA James Mwangu, CPA James Atemba, Dr. Noel Malanda and Tom Musungu.
The function was also attended by County Executive Committee Members (CECM) Dr. Jairus Amayi (Environment, Water, Climate Change and Natural Resources), Joseph Lunani (Commerce, Tourism and Cooperatives), Chief Officers Dr. Noel Malanda (Water), Etale Tunya (Transport and Infrastructure, also Acting Office of The Governor), Philip Gavuna (Public Service and Administration), Kaane Sylvesters (Gender, Culture, Youth, Sports and Social Services), a host of Members of the Vihiga County Assembly led by Majority Leader and Tambua Ward MCA Manoah Mboku among other County Government of Vihiga officers.
