The County Government of Vihiga‘s Department of Health Services received a delegation from Cure Cervical Cancer – curecervicalcancer.org led by the founder Dr. Patricia Gordon, together with the Bristol Myers Squib Foundation Africa Director who are on a familiarity tour to assess the progress of the newly launched Home-based HPV testing and treatment program.
Through a partnership, the program targets to screen more than 5000 women over the HPV, a deadly virus that courses cervical cancer.
According to World Health Organization(WHO) recommend model, women aged between 25 to 49 years in Vihiga are undergoing screening process to establish HPV prevalence.
Patients who turns HPV positive will be offered free treatment at the already organized outreach sites within their community health units upon completion of screening exercise.
The program is aimed at revolutionizing on how to leverage on community health structure to bring life saving cervical cancer prevention and interventions right at the door step of our women in the villages.
