YOUTH SENSITIZATION WORKSHOP FOR AGRI-ENTREPRENEURS

Department of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries in partnership with Business Acceleration for Young Entrepreneurs in Africa( BAYE Africa ) and GIZ today held a youth sensitization workshop for Agri-entrepreneurs.
The 15 Agri-entrepreneurs selected from every Sub-county have been onboarded for a mentorship program that will last for 8 months, following a call for application placed by GIZ and BAYE Africa between December 2024 and January 2025.
Key focus areas in selection included:
1. Input suppliers from Supply chain perspective right from production, processing and distribution
2. Those doing Supplementary poultry feeding due to high cost of feeds
3. Those practising Azolla, Sunflower and Soya as part of primary raw materials for feed production
4. Those supporting brand development design and digital marketing and other ads on services
5. Those providing extension services to other entrepreneurs
Key objectives to be achieved through the mentorship programme include:
1. Facilitate Business Growth and improvement resulting in creation of decent jobs and employment opportunities for young people
2. Improve the mentees Financial and Economic Performance
3. Empower the Business Owners to deal with emerging issues in businesses
4. Skills and knowledge transfer
According to BAYE- Africa Founder and Managing Director Fredrick Otieno, the programme will take a business, industrial and peer to peer mentorship approach for it to be implemented.
He also noted that each mentor will have three mentees to ensure continuity of the value chains being practiced across the county.
In his remarks, County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Agriculture Nicholas Kitungulu appreciated the two patners for involving the youths in their program in positively changing the Agricultural sector from subsistence to Agri-business. He further urged the young Agri entrepreneurs to ensure they brand their products before marketing and selling to their customers.
